Sentinels

Raven Arbuckle is an Indigenous 2 Spirit artist who lives in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Raven has a Bachelor of Fine Arts and Illustration from the Rocky Mountain College of Art and Design. Raven’s description of Sentinels: “This painting is based on a frequent dream I have of a world with a red sky, populated by tall stone monoliths. These monoliths sometimes emit almost musical humming sounds, and become different beings, which are rooted to the spot. A thread sometimes passes through them, weaving over the landscape, always through the stones. This work did not come together for almost two years and marks an ending and a beginning for me. The first version of this painting was the last work I made before taking a hiatus from art making. I was burned out and had lost my grasp on any kind of unifying vision or subject. When I eventually came out of this period, I was given the opportunity for my first solo exhibit, and I returned to finish the work.”
