Hoka Skenandore’s version of Oklahoma’s hills includes graffiti inspired elements. The title for this piece comes from Woody Guthrie’s song “Oklahoma Hills.” Hoka lives in Oklahoma. He spent much of his youth tagging buildings and other inanimate objects as a graffiti artist. Hoka is the third generation of a family of American Indian artists to graduate from the Institute of American Indian Arts in Santa Fe, New Mexico. His work has been included in solo and group exhibitions in New Mexico, Oklahoma, Arizona, California, South Dakota, and Colorado. Hoka’s paintings are also part of the permanent collection of the Heritage Center at the Red Cloud School in Pine Ridge, South Dakota.
