In Doppelganger Buffalo, Tom Farris combines the midcentury modern art style of Shag, a California artist, with a nod to TC Cannon, one of the best known Native American artists. The buffalo represents Tom’s Otoe Missouria mother’s buffalo clan. The buffalo character is in his home, which in Tom’s mind would have the period authentic art work of TC Cannon. The buffalo sees himself in the TC Cannon painting, hence the “Doppelganger” title. Tom lives in Oklahoma. Much of his art is influenced by pop culture and comics. He has won numerous awards for his art, including awards at the Santa Fe Indian Market and Artesian Arts Festival. Tom’s artwork has been purchased by the Heard Museum in Phoenix, Arizona.
