The Red Dress

$475.00

Candace Shanholtzer’s purpose in The Red Dress was to bring attention to the Missing, Murdered Indigenous Women Movement. She describes her purpose as follows: “The red dress has become the symbol of our stolen sisters. As many as 1 in 5 Indigenous women go missing, but statistics are difficult to obtain due to the gray area of uniting tribal and other police agencies on being able to report to the missings person database. It is hope that in the future, tribal police agencies will be granted access to report their own missing persons’ cases to the nationwide database that other police agencies utilize.” Candace received a B.A. in Fine Art from the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma. She lives in Oklahoma.
