Eric Tippeconnic’s His New Coat is the spectaular painting you hang over your fireplace. Eric’s description: “Having counted coup on a Spanish officer, a Comanche warrior is sporting his new Spanish Officer’s coat as a trophy of war. There is an oral history passed down to me from some Comanche elders that the red, yellow, and blue in the Comanche Nation’s flag are derived from the colors prominent in a type of Spanish officer’s uniform like the one depicted in His New Coat. Jackets like this were prized by Comanche warriors and once attained were worn with pride.” His New Coat was featured in Eric’s “Comanche Motion” exhibtion at the Bullock Texas State History Museum in 2018-2019. Eric is a professor of history at Cal State Fullerton. His work is included in the permanent collections of the Red Earth Museum and the Oklahoma Supreme Court in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
