Cedar Tree

$1,500.00

Jerry Brown is a Dine (Navajo) painter who lives in New Mexico. He graduated from the Institute of American Indian Arts in 1995. Brown’s contemporary work is a reflection of his life living and working from his traditional homelands. Brown describes himself as a “man that lives and works in two worlds, my traditional Dine world and the modern world I encounter every day.” Brown’s abstract works reflect this rich and vibrant life. He also enjoys creating work that explores the natural world with animal (especially hummingbird) studies, landscapes, and botanical pieces.

Brown’s description of Cedar Tree: “I created this piece over a five-year period, finally declaring it complete in 2022. This piece has grown, changed, and morphed in the process. The cedar tree has revealed itself and provided a focus for the painting. I chose to develop the cedar as an expression of its importance in Dine traditions.”
