April Holder's The Hunter honors the men in her tribe: "This piece is about the struggle for survival and the hunt for knowledge of Native American elder men. In my tribe, our men seek wisdom in all things, but in contemporary times it is becoming difficult to maintain traditional knowledge. This work is about the relationship to our past while living in the changing world around us." April lives in Oklahoma. April Holder created this piece to honor her grandmother. "This piece is about my grandmother, and when she passed away. The images are of my grandmother and her mother from when she was a child. It is the reconnection of the bond between a mother and a child after being separated by death. The landscape surrounding them is everywhere my grandmother loved - the mountains of the southwest, the oceans, and the lush floral beauty of Oklahoma. They are immersed in all of the things she loved, once again, forever." April lives in Oklahoma. She is a graduate of the Institute of American Indian Arts in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
