Tonarcy – Comanche 1902

$2,900.00

Would Number Seven Reservation Wife have been a good gig? Nocona Burgess’ portrait of Tonarcy, Quanah Parker’s number seven reservation wife, is dark and even a bit off kilter, but if you look closely you can see a butterfly. Nocona is the great, great grandson of Chief Quanah Parker, the last war chief of the Comanche. Nocona grew up in Oklahoma and now lives in Santa Fe, New Mexico. His work is included in the permanent collections of the Smithsonian Institute Museum of the American Indian in Washington, D.C., the Museum of Indian Arts and Culture in Santa Fe, and then Bristol Museum in Bristol England.
