Thoughts of Home

Dylan Cavin’s Thoughts of Home was part of Return from Exile, an exhibit that traveled across the United States. Dylan describes the piece as follows: “Thoughts of Home portrays a solemn, older, Choctaw man. The watermark tree in his head symbolizes Mississippi, the Choctaw homeland. He is reminiscing about his home and the hardships following his peoples’ removal. These hardships are outlined on the wrinkles on his face. Despite wearing a modern day bandana around his neck, the diamonds in the bandana are a nod to Choctaw culture.” Dylan lives in Oklahoma. He is an enrolled member of the Choctaw Nation. Dylan’s work has been shown in numerous museums, including both the New York and Washington, D.C. locations of the Smithsonian’s National Museum of the American Indian.
