Abiquiu is located about 53 miles north of Santa Fe, New Mexico. Abiquiu means “wild choke cherry place” in the Tewa language. Mateo lives in New Mexico. His work is in the permanent collection of the Peabody Essex Museum in Salem, Massachusetts.
