Stuart Sampson is a painter based in Edmond, Oklahoma. He specializes in portrait painting, creating colorful, expressive portraits of various subjects. The faces of Native American people, as well as athletes and actors, factor prominently in Sampson’s portfolio. A proud member of the Citizen Potawtomi Nation, Sampson’s work reflects his love for the culture taught to him by his grandfather. Sampson’s use of bright planes of color and monochromatic backgrounds emphasize the appearance of his figures. He paints frequently on wood panels, allowing a hint of the wood texture to show through between the brush marks. Sampson’s use of black, white, and gray colors allow him to capture the faces of his subjects with great sensitvity and expression. Sampson has shown his work at numerous venues, and has won awards for his work at the Cherokee Art Market and Red Earth Art Market.
