Sherman Chaddlesone (1947-2013) was a direct descendant of the great Kiowa war chief Santana. Chaddlesone served in Vietnam with the United States Army. He attended the Institute of American Indian Arts in Santa Fe, New Mexico, where he took classes with notable artists such as Alan Houser and Fritz Scholder. Chaddlesone did post graduate work at the University of Central Oklahoma, which honors him with the Sherman Chaddlesone Arts & Letters Lecture Series, which is held on Indigenous People’s Day.
