Navajo artist Shaun Beyale grew up without electricity or running water, so watching television or listening to a cd was not an option. He entertained himself by reading comic books, and the comic book genre has influenced his art. Beyale is a graduate of the Institute of American Indian Arts in Santa Fe, New Mexico. He is also a head artist for “A Friend in Need”, a comic book starring River, an Indigenous superhero who has joined the Marvel Universe.
