Robert Martinez was born on the Wind River Reservation in Riverton, Wyoming. His art is influenced by his Spanish, Mexican, Scots-Irish, French Canadian and Northern Arapaho lineage. Martinez obtained a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the Rocky Mountain College of Art & Design. Much of his work draws from the historical imagery, myth, and stories of the American West and Arapaho culture. Martinez melds these concepts with modern themes to create images that reflect upon and interpret current societal issues and ideas. His work has been shown across the United States. Martinez’s work is included in the permanent collections of the Smithsonian National Museum of the American Indian, the Red Cloud Heritage Museum, the Brinton Museum, and the Plains Indian Museum at the Cody Center of the West.
