Keith Braveheart is an Oglala Lakota artist who grew up on the South Dakota Pine Ridge Indian Reservation of the Oglala Lakota. He is a contemporary Native American artist who developed a passion for art in high school. Braveheart received his bachelor’s degree from the Institute of American Indian Arts in Santa Fe, New Mexico, and his master’s of fine arts degree in painting at the University of South Dakota. Regarding his passion for art, Braveheart has said: “There is No Lakota Word for Art. I am only doing what I was born to do.” Braveheart’s work is included in the permanent collections of the Akta Lakota Museum in Chamberlain, South Dakota and the Dahl Museum in Rapid City, South Dakota.
