Elizabeth Morgan is a Kiowa and Plains Apache artist from Lawton, Oklahoma, whose work spans a diverse range of styles, from pop art to hyper realism to abstract. As an artist deeply rooted in her Southern Plains Native heritage, Elizabeth’s creative practice is a reflection of her identity and her mission to uplift the voices of Indigenous women. Through her acrylic paintings, Elizabeth aims to shed light on the stories and perspectives of women in her community—those who played a pivotal role in shaping her as both an artist and a person. “These are the kinds of women who helped raise me,” she reflects, acknowledging the strength and resilience that runs through the matriarchal lines of her culture. Elizabeth’s career has been marked by numerous achievements, including her role as the gallery curator for the Chisholm Trail Heritage Museum, where she has helped elevate Native voices in the arts. She has also completed notable commissions, such as a work for the head of the Indian Gaming Commission, and designed album covers for music artist Tierra Whack. Her impact in the arts was recognized with a Young Adult Artist Award from the Center for Native American Youth in Washington, D.C., a testament to her emerging prominence within both the Native American and wider artistic communities. Despite her broad artistic range, Elizabeth’s work remains firmly grounded in her Southern Plains roots, blending contemporary art practices with a deep reverence for the traditions that have shaped her worldview. Through her work, Elizabeth Morgan continues to create art that not only represents her own journey but also honors the stories of the women who have shaped her community and her identity as a Southern Plains Indian.
