Cruz McDaniels II

Cruz McDaniels II paints under the name of Set-Koy-Key or Man Who Lives with Bears. He served in the United State Marine Corps in Vietnam. He received both a bachelor and masters of arts degree at Southwestern Oklahoma State University. McDaniels is a teacher at the Riverside Indian School in Anadarko, Oklahoma, a Bureau of Indian Affairs school. His work has been exhibited in New York, Los Angeles, and Tokyo. One of McDaniels’ earliest memories is of his father comforting him as the moon set. McDaniels always includes a moon in his paintings to honor his father. McDaniels’ favorite colors are red and orange, which he equates with fire and warmth, and the color blue, which McDaniels uses to depict feelings of cold or sadness.
