Robby McMurty’s “Sweet” exemplifies his illustrative painting style and the emotional conviction of his work. As a painter, novelist, and playwright of Comanche, Cajun, and Irish descent, he spent his career fascinated by telling stories of people, history, the human experience, and one’s dreams. He encouraged and mentored countless students in eastern Oklahoma to pursue art as a means of self-expression.
His work is included in the permanent collections of the United States Department of the Interior in Washington, D.C., and the Center for Great Plains Studies, University of Nebraska. In 2015, McMurty was honored with a posthumous solo exhibition of his work at the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum in Oklahoma City.
